African Union Commission has New Chairperson

The assembly of the heads of state and the government has elected the new commission of the African Union. The election and the confirmation has been made at the 19th ordinary session of the assembly which took place between July 15th and 16th of 2012 in Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia.

For the first time a women in name of Dr. Nkosazana Clarise Dhlamini Zuma has been selected to pilot the affairs of the commission for the next four years. Mr. Erastus Mwencha is re-elected as deputy chairperson of the commission, which he has assumed since in year 2008. The summit also saw the election of six of the eight commissioners. The election of other two commissioners will took place in summit scheduled in January 2013.

Dr. Dhlamini Zuma committed herself to work with determination to ensure that the vision of the commission is translated into reality. She dedicated her victory to all the women in the continent, calling for unity and cohesion among all Africans.
