In order to accelerate investments in high value added electronics manufacturing in the country, ELCINA is setting up the first Model Cluster consisting largely of SME’s to manufacture electronic components and products for the Consumer Electronics, Power Electronics and Lighting industry.
ELCINA and Vittal Innovation City have agreed to partner for developing this Cluster for electronics component and equipment manufacturing and propel the growth of electronics industry in India. The cluster will also provide Knowledge based services, manufacturing, R&D and incubation activities inspired by global hi-tech innovation clusters like Silicon Valley in the US, Hsinchu in Taiwan, and Tsukuba in Japan.
Each cluster will be about 100 acres, will attract investment of upto Rs. 1000 Crores, and create over 15,000 direct jobs. The first cluster is proposed to be located at North India near Delhi within one year.
Members of ELCINA, interested in setting up manufacturing facilities at this location have come together to participate in a joint venture and are partnering with Vittal Innovation City. The participating members will invest in setting up their manufacturing facilities in this Cluster, jumpstarting the growth of this industry. The cluster also aims to attract investments from global component manufacturers for the overall growth of this industry and technology acquisition. The cluster will be jointly run by the members of ELCINA and VIC, based on their respective strengths.
A MOU was signed between VIC and ELCINA on 3 February, by Mr. N. Vittal, Chairman, Vittal Innovation City and Mr. Pawan Sharma, Vice President, ELCINA at New Delhi.
“We are extremely pleased to support this unique initiative by ELCINA members in helping them build this world-class knowledge based electronics components and equipment manufacturing cluster. It’s exciting to see the ELCINA members working together for the overall benefit of the component manufacturers industry.” Mr.N.Vittal, Chairman, Vittal Innovation City, said in the press release.
“We are excited to work with Vittal Innovation City, for our electronics manufacturing cluster. They bring with them global expertise to build an innovation-led cluster which includes design, innovation, R&D, manpower development and incubation centres to build first of its kind cluster in India.” Mr.Pawan Sharma, ELCINA, said in the press release.
ELCINA President Mr T. Vasu said “This is a very important initiative for the industry as Department of IT has advised us to establish the first such Model Cluster and prove that we have conceptualized the right Cluster Model for the country. The Draft National Electronics Policy 2011 envisages setting up 200 such Clusters in the country and we hope to contribute significantly to this initiative”.
Vittal Innovation City already has an MOU with Institute of Information Technology (III), Taiwan to promote the cluster with the Taiwanese electronics companies, and with the Korean Government to promote the cluster for Hi-tech Korean companies.
