Telecom and Xero sign deal for SMEs

Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) provider Xero is targeting the small to medium business market, by offering its online accounting system through Telecom’s Business Hub.

Companies can use the online accounting system service for a monthly or annual subscription fee.As well, by mid-November Telecom customers will be able to take advantage of a free 60-day trial of Xero through the hub.

Xero CEO Rod Drury says the company partnered with Telecom due to its nationwide reach.

“Telecom is one of those organizations that touches almost all New Zealanders. Our system gives small businesses easy access to bank transactions, invoicing and reports anywhere where they are connected to the internet.”

Telecom head of business marketing, Victoria Crone, says the company does have a strategy in the SME market to provide SaaS applications to a range of New Zealand business.

Future plans may include companies paying for Xero on a Telecom phone bill.“We will be working towards mobile integration, it’s just the start of what we can do,” Crone says.

Drury added that by using SaaS the company can link to a whole lot of opportunities as well. “When you start blurring accounting with mobility and broadband, there are a whole lot of ways these can link together like CRM [Customer Relationship Management] and unified communications. The timing [of this partnership] is really good, because people are focused on their cash flow.”
